“Flooded basement.”

Two words you never want to think about – especially when you’re just getting home from a vacation. But that’s the situation our family encountered last winter.

While I’m constantly working on home-improvement projects, the basement was not on our radar. Then we learned insurance wouldn’t cover the damage, so we decided to invest in a major renovation, converting our little-used basement into a stylish, comfortable living space. And as you can see, mission accomplished!

The renovation was an exciting opportunity to design an entirely new space from the ground up – literally. We started with the flooring, knowing how important the style and color of a floor are in bringing all the elements of a room together. The other big consideration was getting a floor that offered a lot of durability, because our family would soon be spending a lot more time down there.

Long story short, we chose the Dune Oak design from Karndean. And guys – we LOVE it.

We've used many types of luxury vinyl flooring, and Karndean is by far above and beyond the rest. No. 1, it’s virtually indistinguishable from hardwood. The artistry is truly incredible. And No. 2? It’s waterproof, so if anything were to happen again, there’s a good chance we won’t have to replace it.

Dune Oak is from the Art Select collection, which is full of beautifully crafted wood- and stone-inspired looks. The entire collection is available in both gluedown and rigid core – the rigid core LVT clicks and locks together for installation, so there’s no need for adhesive or a ton of prep work. Like all Karndean LVT, everything in the collection is backed by a lifetime residential warranty.

Explore Art Select here for inspiration, and FYI, you can order free samples and find a Karndean retailer on the Karndean website, too.
